About Luis M. Khoury
Luis M. Khoury was and is a hero. His life was the American Dream. Born in the Dominican Republic, he moved with his family to the U.S. at a young age. He taught himself English by reading his favorite Marvel comics, and worked extremely hard in school so that he could make a better life for himself and his family.
He worked full-time to put himself through college, meanwhile marrying the woman of his dreams to start a family of his own. He was extremely successful, and most importantly, he created a family that not even the Hulk could break.
Luis M. Khoury taught us that family is always more important than work. He coached his son’s baseball team for more than 16 years, and traveled near and far to watch his son compete against the best. He attended every single one of his daughter’s dance recitals, volleyball or softball games, and was her date to every Father Daughter dance in high school.
When he was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in 2011, he continued to live his life as if nothing changed. He created a family with his wife that could withstand any obstacle, curve ball and sand trap. He worked every single day, played golf every week and still went on vacation, while going through extensive chemotherapy.
Luis M. Khoury lost his battle on January 13, 2013. Through this foundation, we are showing others that love is more powerful than death, and we will continue to live his legacy to give others a fighting chance.
“Mr. Khoury fought his disease with great courage and humor. Luis supported our mission to improve the treatments for biliary tract cancer by his support of the research we do at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. For this I will always be grateful. Working toward a cure is the goal that we strive for every single day. Remembering patients like Luis Khoury inspire me and my colleagues in this quest.” – Dr. Cosgrove
